Most visitors who come to Shaw are drawn by its exquisite views and peaceful setting . It is densely forested and relatively undeveloped. Nestled between the three other islands, Orcas, San Juan and Lopez, it is unique among those islands served by the state ferries in having virtually no commercial or tourist-oriented facilities. There is a country store that provides a limited selection of amenities and artwork. A campground at the south end of the island has 12 primitive camping sites. That's it for public overnight facilities. For those who are self-equipped campers and enjoy experiencing nature however, the beauty of Shaw Island can’t be beat.
